BHHF’s Planting Tree Project emerges as Best Climate Change and Sustainability Project

Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation’s (BHHF) Planting Tree Project emerged as the Best Climate Change and Sustainability Project category winner at the International Humanitarian City’s 2023 Awards held in Dubai.

The award, organized on March 16,2023, as part of the IHC’s celebration of 20 years of supporting the global humanitarian community, featured several categories, including Best Awareness Campaign, Best SDG Focused Project, Best Innovative Solution, and Best Climate Change and Sustainability.

The Planting Tree Project submitted by Bring Hope seeks to plant trees in several districts across Kirkuk, Iraq, to increase green spaces, mitigate climate change impact, and foster peace and collaboration for sustainable development.

The project, which collaborates with locate youth groups, has planted 30,000 trees around the Tigris River, one of the most important historical sites in the world, and highlights the need for climate resilience, conservation of natural heritage, and harmony between different youth groups.

Accordingly, the Planting Tree Project was particularly timely, as the recent COP27 identified Iraq as a climate hotspot, highlighting that water scarcity contributes to the destruction of agricultural livelihoods and drives internal displacement from rural to urban areas-thus, impacting areas that already struggle to provide essential services to residents.

Bring Hope’s Planting Trees Project is a critical step in improving and addressing climate change situation in Iraq and highlights the importance of increasing green spaces in key areas and protecting river systems.

As a member of the Global Humanitarian Community, Bring Hope is immensely proud of its contribution to improving the lives of those experiencing displacement as well as being one of the recipients of the International Humanitarian City Awards.
