Traumatized Society Finds Hope in a Healing Program
Many Syrians are in urgent need of safe spaces to discuss their grief and traumatic experiences, to share the anger and fear that often overwhelm them. Children are the number one fastest growing victim from the Syrian conflict, women are second, both are extremely vulnerable and as such bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation established the Healing Program.
We are working to heal an entire generation of Syrian refugees from the deep and life draining trauma of violence. Rebuilding devastated families is a grand task, by using the Healing Program in refugee camps we are able to train large numbers of children and women in proven and culturally adapted professional healing skills. The program provides a chance at building hope and adds a layer of resiliency to a community that has experienced profound trauma.
On 4 August 2018 Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation conducted the Healing Program over a four-day period at Darashakran and Kawergosk refugee camps near Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan. This program delivers a message; all humans, no matter their religion, no matter where they come from are valued members of society. Each person is able to help another, anyone can smile (even briefly) and everyone is provided the opportunity to become more experienced in the use of healing techniques to help them manage difficult days now and in the future. The Healing Program provides immediate healing and helps participants develop a foundation for the years to come. In turn, this program provides empowerment and promotes communal healing.
A Bring Hope volunteer describes what she perceived stating, “After two days I realized this project was reflected in the faces of the women and children who participated. They looked more comfortable, relaxed, confident, and exhibited a more balanced emotional demeanor.” This same volunteer was told by a participant, “My sleep is better…” Every day the participants came with big smiles and lots of enthusiasm.
At the conclusion of the program, Bring Hope distributed packages of hygiene products and toys for the children provided through generous donations from Norway. You can be part of this healing journey, see bringhope.info.
