Tragedy Strikes Khazr U2 Camp
Just 3 days ago, in the refugee camp Khazr U2 near the Iraqi city of Mosul, at least 850 refugees became so sick after eating their Iftar meal (the meal eaten following Ramadan daily fast) that 200 required hospitalization.
Food poisoning is suspected and people were seen vomiting; some patients were taken to the nearby Raparin Pediatric Hospital in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan and had suffered from dehydration and severe stomach pain. Others were taken to two other area hospitals for treatment.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, said it was “extremely concerned” by the events at the camp that houses 6,235 people. Staff at the camp worked tirelessly to coordinate a response to this tragedy with other agencies and relevant authorities to ensure everyone affected was treating quickly and appropriately.
Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation is the only organization on the ground providing this camp and others like it with needed medications. Help is urgently needed to continue supplying medications to those most affected by conflict.
