The Connection Between Each Other

“I was a barber before I got to this camp and didn’t want to feel useless or do nothing so I opened up this little improvised barbershop. It’s not much but I get by. Men don’t come here just for a haircut. We talk, we laugh, we discuss. We connect. That’s what I love most about it. The connection.”

In the Basirma camp in Iraqi Kurdistan live around 7000 Syrian refugees. There are approximately 5 barbershops like his in the camp but no sign of competition or rivalry. It’s about connecting. Especially in times and in situations where people easily disconnect. Here they take care of each other because no one else will. They’ve all been dealt the same awful hand and try to make the best of a very bad and inhumane situation.

It seems very simple and easy but connection is something we find incredibly important too. This connection makes it easier for us humans to understand each other, hear each other and listen to each other. It makes us kinder. But connection is also what we as an organisation use to be able to help to the best of our abilities. To know what is needed, who needs it and where it’s needed. It makes it easier for use to work together with camp managers, donors and our volunteers. In the end it’s all about connection.

Everyone can bring hope

BHHF’s primary objective of humanitarian aid is to save lives, alleviate suffering, as well as to give the most vulnerable group (displaced children) hope for the future. BHHF has provided humanitarian aid with short-term and long-term help to homeless refugees, victims of natural disasters, wars and famines, and poor people.

Heartwarming news. Once a month.
