Something as Simple as Clothes Can Make a Huge Impact
Our team on the ground see a lot of children who have lost one parent due to war and conflict. Some have even lost both parents. These children have had a false start in life and didn’t get the same chances and opportunities most of us got. They didn’t have a safe place to play, to grow or to learn. But those are not the only problems these children face.
These children had to leave everything behind and find safety. No more toys and no more clothes. Clothes are not a luxury item for these children. They are a necessity. Our team went to visit 8 children who lost both parents and are now orphans living with their families that are struggling to make ends meet due to the situation they are forced to be in due to war and conflict.
Our team was able to provide new clothes for these children. Not only will they now be able to dress weather appropriately and fight the cold and heat, they also got a boost in confidence and self esteem. Because whether we like it or not, clothes do play a role in how we feel and if we feel confident and for children it is especially important to feel confident. Because confidence leads to social participation which has at least a dozen benefits such as performance in school. Trading old and ripped clothes in for new clothes will help them tremendously on many levels.
The eight children and their families were very excited and happy to receive the clothes and our team reported that it was a joy to see how such a seemingly small and easy gesture can make a great impact.
