Sara Ossman is the Communications Officer for the MENA region at Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation (BHHF). She has a master’s degree in Strategic Communication from Lund University, Sweden.
Sara was born in Lebanon, and has attributed the uprisings that took place in the Middle East in recent years as an influence for her choice of prospective studies and career. She studied a Bachelor of Mass Communication from Jinan University of Lebanon, for the significance of media in reaching out to aggrieved people to reveal their plight and appeal for international assistance. After finishing her bachelor’s degree, she worked at Al Jazeera Arabic as a journalist intern and was inspired by the rich and vibrant environment. The training required her to capture the core of every story from all over the world and was integral to the development of her critical analysis of social, cultural and political dimensions of media internationally.
Sara’s interest in communication developed in the direction of organisational development work which lead her to pursue her master’s degree in “Strategic Communication” at Lund University, where she has built an interest in non-profit brand communication. She gained a deep knowledge of brand communication, PR, research, planning, evaluation and controlling, enhancing her skills in setting strategies and managing projects. She is also currently enrolled in a Master of Communication for Development at Malmö University to develop her skills in working in international developmental corporations.
Her volunteer work is a testament to her dedication to humanitarian assistance. She filled the Communication Consultant position at Start Point, a Swedish/Turkish organisation that works with gender-based violence and women’s empowerment. She also volunteered as a Campaign Coordinator and Project Manager for a women’s rights group at Amnesty International. She has also been involved with the Red Cross and Save the Children, counselling refugees who have are seeking asylum. She is fluent in English, Arabic, French and Swedish. When she’s not working, she enjoys reading, taking long walks, drawing and painting and playing with her fur-babies.
