Ranya District

Ranya District is located in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, Iraqi Kurdistan. The population is approximately 200,000 and includes three towns, Çiwarqurne, Bêtwate and Hacî awa, and is the centre of the Bîtwên and Raperîn area. This area was established in 1789, during the late Ottoman Empire and is ringed by Kewa rash, which means Black Mountain in Kurdish. The people of Ranya participated in a number of revolutions against tyrannical Iraqi regimes, most famously in May 1991. The Ranya uprising achieved a great victory for the Kurdish people and many refer to the town as Darwaza-I Raparin, the Gate of the Uprising.

On 23 July 2017, Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation in cooperation with Ranya’s Health Director provided approximately $10,000 worth of medicine for the hospitals and clinics located in Ranya District. As the Iraqi government is economically challenged to provide for the medical needs of its residents and internally displaced people, Bring Hope seeks to step up to the challenge of assisting people whose resources are limited by providing medicine to help support the health of the people.
