Oral Hygiene Sessions

Listening to people, hearing them and understanding their needs is one of the most important things to do. Only when you listen you will find out how to help them best.

Our team in Erbil visited the Qushtapa refugee camp where over 1200 Syrian families live. After having to leave their families, friends, jobs and all their belongings behind they no live in tents with the bare minimum. A lot of the women suffer from traumas and phycological problems. We can’t help with everything but the team learned that one way to help these families in their new situation was to give oral hygiene sessions.

It seems like such an easy thing but a lot of our well being starts with good oral hygiene and often when dealing with stress, trauma and other problems it’s easy to forget how and why it’s important to really take care of your teeth and gums. Besides that, being able to take care of yourself is empowering and boosts self esteem.

In cooperation with volunteers from Challenge Kurdistan Organisation our team was able to provide these sessions. Because we believe that knowledge should come from the right people the team arranged for a dentist to lead, guide and teach these sessions. Around 30 women attended these sessions. To make sure these women are able to keep up with their oral hygiene we provided them with toothbrushes, toothpaste and mouthwash.

We immediately saw the positive effect these sessions had and would like to thank the volunteers from the Challenge Kurdistan Organisation and dentist for making this possible.

Everyone can bring hope

BHHF’s primary objective of humanitarian aid is to save lives, alleviate suffering, as well as to give the most vulnerable group (displaced children) hope for the future. BHHF has provided humanitarian aid with short-term and long-term help to homeless refugees, victims of natural disasters, wars and famines, and poor people.

Heartwarming news. Once a month.
