Medicine Distribution at the Nanakali Hospital

In December 2018 we were able to provide the Nanakali Hospital in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan with the much-needed medicine Cyclophosphamide. This medicine is used in the chemotherapy treatment of various types of cancer and many families will benefit from this donation.

The medicine is used in the chemotherapy treatment of lymphoma, multiple myeloma, leukemia, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, small cell lung cancer, neuroblastoma, and sarcoma. It surpasses the immune system and kills the cancer cell.

Cancer has a huge effect on those who are sick and their loved ones. Both physically and mentally it is a very difficult disease to manage. No one has any guarantees when it comes to survival but fortunately there are a lot of treatments that can help and can even cure cancer. It’s a long and hard road but when treatment is successful it is absolutely priceless.

Unfortunately, treatment often comes with a high price tag which means not everyone can get the treatment they need. While most of us feel that everyone should get the same chances when it comes to healthcare there is a lot of inequality. Where you live or how much you make should not determine whether or not you get the healthcare you need and deserve.

In Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan many people live well below the poverty line and can’t afford proper healthcare. Not only does this mean they have less chance of survival when they get cancer it also takes a huge toll on the families trying to take care of them. It results in a lot of extra stress which can make the situation and the disease much worse and hopeless.

We were happy to be able to provide the Nanakali Hospital with 3 boxes, each containing 120 vials, of Cyclophosphamide. A lot of people can now get the treatment they need and it gives them a better chance of survival. Hopefully this also takes away some of the stress so they can be with their families and can properly recover from chemotherapy.

So far we’ve been able to distribute 5,000 treatments to the Nanakali Hospital in Erbil, the Hiwa Hospital in Sulaimaniyah and the Azadi Hospital in Duhok.
