Helping Each Other

The rain season was just about to start when these men stabilized their housing units, in the Basirma Camp in Iraqi Kurdistan, and made sure the roof and walls won’t leak. With no money but years of experience in construction they had to be innovative and managed to fix it themselves. With soil, a soil sifter, shovels, water and hard work.

It takes about 3-4 days to repair one housing unit. But once they’re done with their shelter they will check the neighbours shelters for leakages as well and will fix it. “We are all we got so we make sure to help each other and ourselves where we can. And if someone wants to learn this trait? They can join and we’ll teach. Mafi Mushkela, no problem.”

The living conditions in these camps are hard and often inhumane. But in between all of that you can find resilience and a sense of community. Kindness doesn’t cost a thing but makes a lot of impact and we could really use a lot of that in this world.

Everyone can bring hope

BHHF’s primary objective of humanitarian aid is to save lives, alleviate suffering, as well as to give the most vulnerable group (displaced children) hope for the future. BHHF has provided humanitarian aid with short-term and long-term help to homeless refugees, victims of natural disasters, wars and famines, and poor people.
