Easter Celebration and Distribution for Families Without Husbands & Fathers
Our Bring Hope team in Erbil visited one of the most important places in Ankawa, a suburb of Erbil. The team visited 25 widows whose husbands were killed by IS. Their children now have to grow up without a father and the women without a husband.
After they fled from war and violence they now live in poverty. In most families it was the husband that took care of the family financially and without their income it’s hard to get by. These women and their children now have to live without any support whether it be mentally, physically or support with humanitarian aid and food. They are in survival mode and aren’t able to properly grief their late husbands. The fact that they don’t have a safe space and proper time to grief is taking its toll and depression among these women is a real issue. However right now their children’s safety, health and even happiness is priority which means they don’t have time to worry about themselves.
We always try to reach out to them and help them wherever needed. That’s why we went to visit them to celebrate Easter together. To share a moment where everything was normal, their minds could wonder off and the children could just be children. We also made sure all families were given packages containing clothes, blankets, dishes, cutlery, cups and food. They need these items to properly take care of their families. Distributing these packages means they have one less thing to worry about.
It is important to show them they are not alone and not forgotten. To show them humanity.
Our team received a lot of thanks and were told how important this kind of support is. We will keep supporting and helping the most vulnerable people in the world in any way we can. We’re in this together.
