Clothes Distribution for Yezidi Families in Erbil
Not too long ago the team of Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation collaborated with the NGO GSIO (Gender Studies and Information Organization). Through this collaboration many clothes could be donated to Yezidi people who are now living in Erbil.
These people used to live in Sinjar, Iraq, a town with a population of roughly 90,000 people in the Shingal District near Mount Shingal. A few years ago, thousands of Yezidi people were killed and/or abducted by IS. Trying to escape these horrors and trying to find safety many Yezidi families now live in refugee camps and other settlements.
Some of these families ended up in Erbil where they live in abandoned construction sites. They live in improvised housing made from the materials they could find such as plastic, tarp, rope and sheets of metal. Often many families live together in tiny spaces without any privacy.
Can you imagine having to run for your life with your children in your arms. Having to leave in a moment’s notice and leaving your home, friends and belongings behind. Ending up in an abandoned construction site having to live between sheets of metal and some tarp where the only thing you’ve got is a safe place away from IS and nothing more. The bare minimum. But it gets cold at night and there is no way to protect your elderly parents or your children from the cold because all clothes were left behind. No way of properly warming up or putting on dry clothes every time after heavy rainfall. Normally we’d put our children, and ourselves, under a nice hot shower, put some freshly washed clothes on, get a cup of warm tea and get on the couch with a comfy blanket after a cold and wet day. But this isn’t ‘normally’. The cold harsh reality of these people is that they don’t have that hot shower and they have to stay wet and cold and hope for a ray of sunshine to dry things up.
Our team was able to bring clothes to 3 different locations where 29 Yezidi families are living in these harsh conditions. Each family was provided with a bag full of clean clothes. Clothes that are needed not only for health reasons but also to give them back dignity and humanity. Clean clothes help people feel human again.
We will always support those who need our help. Providing them with whatever they need such as clothes and bringing them hope and humanity.
