Can You Picture This?
Imagine, if you can, a large area of rocky dirt, hold that image in your mind. Picture a hill on this rocky dirt that overlooks a large refugee camp…Kawergosk, with its rows of tents. Now, put children of all ages on the hill, most dressed in clothes not fit for the winter chill wearing sandals…some fit, some don’t. Some of the children go barefoot. Put a football in the middle and you have the only fun these children experience on a regular basis.
Tears flowed from my eyes as I watched these kids play a very excited game of football, some losing their old, ragged, torn and floppy sandals as they kicked the ball or ran to pass it. One boy simply ran, on this very rocky dirt surface that is as uneven as any could imagine of a large rubble hill, in bare feet…amazing isn’t it?
Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation is dedicated to its Football Initiative that will bring a foundation and playing field (smooth and covered with “fake” turf) to refugee camps across Kurdistan. Today, Bring Hope delivers 6 pieces of playing field donated from Holland, sports clothes, shoes for training and playing football to this underserved refugee camp.
With 1860 families living here, most of whom fled Syria to escape war and conflict, these children have pent-up energy that needs a release. These kids choose to play without proper clothes and shoes – they have been getting sick from the cold, so today 18 January 2018, Bring Hope provides the means for these kids to not only play football, but to do so with proper clothing and shoes, and a proper field will be built.
Every child has a dream, every child needs a hobby, every child needs hope that their future will be better. Bring Hope’s Football Initiative seeks to develop and enrich the lives of children living within refugee camps. Learning cooperation, teamwork and values associated with successful living through football camps. These football camps help develop interpersonal bonds between each team member and within the refugee community.
