A Fun Workshop for Children with a Deep and Lasting Impact

A month ago, the Bring Hope team facilitated workshops for children for a week in four different refugee camps. These workshops focused on movement, deep breathing, simple yoga and music. Christina, from Germany, was the amazing teacher who could teach and guide the children.

Workshops like this seem simple enough but are incredibly important for these children. Having experienced unimaginable traumas and living in refugee camps without any certainty for the future these children have a harder time to develop themselves and to develop socially. Often it is also harder for them to accept themselves and be gentle with themselves when all they’ve seen is hardship. For them it is especially important to just be a child, have fun, grow and play. And these workshops were the first and incredibly important step towards that goal.

By teaching them simple yoga poses, showing them breathing techniques and easy movement techniques they can find their inner peace, their inner self. It’s a way to turn all the negative energy into something positive, turn stress into relaxation. They learn how to express their emotions in a healthy way. Because often they don’t know how to express their feelings or express them in a way that’s not necessarily the best way. They also just had lots of fun just doing yoga, playing music and goofing around. The workshop also thought them to work and play together and strengthen the relationship between the children. It was a great exercise for the children and a moment where they could just be children again. No other worries in the world.

Some children found it more challenging than others but with the help from Christina and the support of the group they found the joy and had fun with the exercises. And at the end of each session they all learned the song ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ on the ukulele and in words. Together as a group they would then sing it out loud while playing the ukulele.

When we asked the children how they felt about the workshops they were all happy and positive. They had such a great time and it was just great getting some extra attention. Basically, all children left the classroom optimistic and happy. And that’s all we really want for them. Happy, optimistic children who have hope for the future.

Everyone can bring hope

BHHF’s primary objective of humanitarian aid is to save lives, alleviate suffering, as well as to give the most vulnerable group (displaced children) hope for the future. BHHF has provided humanitarian aid with short-term and long-term help to homeless refugees, victims of natural disasters, wars and famines, and poor people.

Heartwarming news. Once a month.
